Construction crews: minimum provision and practical planning
For construction work, OSHA’s sanitation standard lists one toilet facility for a workforce of 20 or fewer. That is a regulatory starting point, not a universal rental recommendation or an “OSHA approved” product claim. The responsible employer should review the full standard, its exceptions and the site’s circumstances. Read OSHA 1926.51.
Worked example: a crew of 12
Assume 12 workers are on the site together and no existing toilets are available. The small-crew row in that standard points to a minimum of one facility. Separately, equipment manufacturer PolyJohn recommends one portable restroom per 10 construction workers; applying that planning recommendation gives two units for this example. Confirm the actual working hours, cleaning arrangement and site requirements before ordering. PolyJohn construction guidance.
Events: attendance alone cannot choose the quantity
A two-hour gathering and an all-day event with the same guest total do not have the same pattern of use. Include staff and vendors, the time people stay, any common breaks, refreshments and the permanent restrooms actually available. Equipment manufacturers use attendance and duration among the inputs in an event planning calculator; the result still needs a site-specific review.
Example brief for a 100-person gathering
“100 guests, four hours, 10 helpers on site for setup and cleanup, no usable indoor bathrooms, outdoor refreshments, and accessible facilities needed.” This is a useful request to price and review. It is not a promise that a fixed number of standard cabins will suit every 100-person event.
Include washing and accessible facilities separately
A handwashing station does not add toilet capacity. An accessible unit must be considered with the route and the users it serves, not treated as an afterthought once standard units have been counted. Explain separated activity areas, distance from existing bathrooms and any obstacles in the route.
What to send for an Apopka quantity recommendation
- Peak people present, including staff or subcontractors.
- Daily hours, rental dates and busy intervals.
- Existing facilities available to those users.
- Washing, accessible equipment and layout needs.
- Delivery access and a suitable servicing window.
Use those details to discuss both equipment numbers and ongoing service. More cleaning is not automatically a substitute for an adequate number of facilities. Request a setup discussion.
